“Old things are passed away; and behold all things and becoming new” (adapted from II Cor. 5:17). AI is changing the way we do our jobs; internet is changing the way we treat each other, politics is changing the way we view the world and especially the way we hate each other- society has become more disconnected.
As part of our meditation, we think of the song, “It is well with my soul.” Think of the most terrible thing that can happen to you this year- relationships, family, finances, jobs, and even death! Then tell yourself, “There is nothing that can come my way, that God and I cannot handle!” Yesterday we met a lady who said that she may not be around for too long and I said to her, “In God’s time, you will rest from your labors, but as long as you are on this side, do what he wants you to do.” One of my colleagues gave me a book which I just finished “Five People You will meet in Heaven.” Death does not phase me for after I am cremated, I ask those of you who are alive to celebrate a life well lived- full of contentment, joy, and helping somebody along life’s way. We acknowledge the new year efforts of the church in Dago, Kenya where they had a three-day prayer and fasting on Kaburengo Prayer Mountain. We also celebrate the success of the revival crusade with Bishops Hamilton and Banjamin.
Over the Christmas season, during one of the programs, I heard the story of Charles Mulli from Kenya. He came out of the slums (abject poverty) and became a rich businessman with a beautiful family. Eventually, he gave up all his business and developed a ministry to take care of the orphans in Kenya. When asked why he gave up his businesses and choose to help the orphans, this is what he said: “God wanted me to do this. He does not want everyone to do this… Each one of us must follow out individual calling.”
So this is my first message: “Find out what God wants you to do and do it FAITHFULLY.” We do not impose our own requirements on any of our ministers or members. We only ask that you seek the Lord in His word, “Lord, what will you have me to do?” and be faithful to his response. That is why I have given myself no title like Apostle, or Prophet or Archbishop. The testimony is more important than the title! We are all kings and priests unto God. “And formed us into a kingdom (a royal race), priests to His God and Father—to Him be the glory and the power and the majesty and the dominion throughout the ages and forever and ever. Amen (so be it).” (Rev. 1:6 Amp.)
I also want to emphasize that you are at the place where you are supposed to be, doing what you are supposed to do.
I also want to propose some changes to our constitution and by-laws for Conference 2027. At that time, we will observe 20 years of New Millennium Ministries and sixty years of my preaching. At that conference, I plan to retire as president of NMM and hand the reigns of the ministry to someone else. Maybe we need to rewrite our by-laws to have election every four years. I will not be retiring from preaching- in fact, that may increase after that. In a matter of months, I hope we can have some volunteer help as a secretary/assistant treasurer! The preaching and meditation schedule was not meant to be an invitation to guest performers, but rather a fellowship of partners in ministry. I understand those who have pastoral responsibilities, but for the sake of continuity, I may do a monthly schedule. Remember Gideon’s 300- a small group of like-minded, committed people can accomplish more than a large group of mere spectators and opportunists.
Yet still I ask your faithfulness in at least TWO areas based on John 6: 5-13:
“A lad with five barley loaves and two small fishes- but that is a drop in a bucket.”
Attendance- faithful in spending one hour with your ministry every week- or at minimum, twice a month if you are involved in the ministry in preaching or meditation. I am not big in numbers. I honor the faithful ministry of Mohamed Yasin who preached for three years and baptized one person, me. God expects us to be faithful in attendance- Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching (Heb. 10:25).
Our ministry is built on a partnership with ministers, meditators, worship inspirers, and Christians.
Giving- joyfully, without grudge or compulsion. God loves a cheerful giver. I have not preached on tithing much but give what the Lord puts on your heart- if I can help somebody, then my living will not be in vain. NMM has many opportunities. Through our support, we encourage our ministries in Kenya and Uganda to become self-sufficiency through budget and planning. We are doing the same with the entrepreneurship program at Maseno University.
In terms of our faithfulness in giving, Rita and I will work out our budget in March and will continue to fund the churches in Africa through our tithes, but we may also have commitments in Guyana after our visit there early this year. However, we hope to visit Kenya and Uganda later this year. We encourage accountability as we continue our support.
Continue to pray for the sick and shut-in; pray for the possibility of a new church with Pastors Daniel & Tammy Stewart and pray for peace in a world fractured by greed and pride. Pray for the awesome board of New Millennium Ministries.
The Christian Community finds itself seeking and adjusting to the constant changes in a post COVID-19 era
primed with political divisiveness and uncertainty. We will fail if we continue to do things as we have
always done. The world around us is changing and even as our faith remains constant, our methods
must adjust to a changing environment. “Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit
into it without thinking. Instead fix your attention on God. You will be changed from the inside
out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it” (Romans 12:2-
Message)
There is therefore a dire need for renewal in several areas if the Christian community is to recover its
authenticity as the body of Christ in this present generation. Amid the anger and hate in our political and
social arena, we must renew our relationship with each other through the renewal of love. John 13: 34-
35 records that Jesus said: “Let me give you a new command: Love one another… This is how everyone
will recognize you as my disciples- when they see the love you have for each other.”
The frivolous love we purport is too often polluted by “standing up for some political persuasion or
social ideology. That is when we need to love truth above all and seek a renewal of the Word of God.
Puerile exegesis and lack of contextual understanding of scripture leads some believers into the dark
paths of heresy cultism. “The scripture cannot mean what it never meant.”
Only when we understand the scripture can we worship God the way he wants us to worship him. So
there must be a renewal of true Worship. John 4:21-24: “You worship, guessing in the dark… but the
time is coming when what you’re called will not matter and where you go to worship will not matter. It’s
who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the
pursuit of truth.” (John 4:21-24)
As we renew our love for God and for each other, study his Word and seek to worship him, it will
eventually renewal of service to God. We are saved alone but we serve by being part of a community
where we use our gifts for his glory. In discussing gifts and service, Paul noted: (I Cor. 12: 9-10) “Each
person is given something to do that shows who God is, Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits… The
variety is wonderful.” Then we will discover a renewal of faith, a renewal of hope and a renewal of
evangelism.
Blessings!
